Welcome to Fishlore
Freshwater planted tank and you need an aquascape idea(jk but it would look better). Sometimes you can find suitable things for your tank from the yard.

Dwarf Gourami
German Blue Ram Cichild
Neon Tetras
A snail

Betta aren't so great for community tanks. It can work out or the betta will be stressed.

Hello Jay and Welcome to Fish Lore. Congrats on the new 10g. I like your idea of a Betta although I don't have experience with keeping them with shrimp. I'm sure you'll get some more responses soon.
Best of luck and keep us posted.

I think a betta would look nice in a 10 gallon but I'm not sure about keeping them with shrimp. Maybe you could have a betta in a planted tank?

I don't really know anything about the cherry shrimps but I'm sure somebody will come along that does.

that would be cool..but have a bunch of plants and hiding spots for the DG....I like this much better than your ram idea

in a 10 gal? that would be a war zone and IMO would be way overcrowded!

Lol sorry, I got too used to my 20. I was actually going to suggest tiger barbs.
Cory Cats do better in groups of 6.

Dwarf Gourami
Guppies
Pygmy Cory

Welcome to Fishlore!

In a ten gallon... hmm... Personally i would make it something unique, maybe you could heavily plant it and add some Endler's or maybe a DG and 4 cory's

You could also breed guppies

Its good that you aren't going with a GBR. IMO they shouldnt be housed in anything smaller than a 20g

Tiger barbs, also preffer a school of larger than 8, and they get to 3 inches, so even if you went by the 1" per gallon rule (which has many flaws) you would be overstocked, again, i wouldnt keep that kind of fish in something smaller than a 20g.

I like this one:
1 DG
5 Neons
5 Cherry shrimp
like you suggested, you could even bump the neons to 6, if you stayed on top of WC's

What about a pygmy puffer fish, OR a colony of endlers/guppies,OR some shellies, OR you could do 6 Neons and a honey/sparkling gourami OR if you wanna do a slightly brackish you could have bumble bee gobies. There are plenty of fish that can go in a 10 gallon comfortably, if you look around

I like Glofish. ^_^ Yeah, they're pretty much Zebra Danios...but they come in neon colors.

I agree with the honey gourami idea - they're very timid peaceful fish that only get to about 1-1/2 inches, so they would fit well in a 10g, but it would need to be heavily planted so they wouldn't feel stressed. They would only like other slow, easy-going tank mates (they wouldn't like danios). You could certainly add varieties of shrimp or mystery snails. Let us know what you decide

Edit: If you do go with the honey dwarf gourami, make certain it's the Trichogaster chuna because there is a bigger kind that is sometimes called a honey gourami and they are aggressive and get to 6"!!!

Then it sounds pretty awesome to me. I'd like to hear what others who have experience with neons have to say, but I like it.
