White spot - The dreaded ich?

Greetings all.

Could you give me your considered opinion on this - it's a ruby shark that has developed a white spot below his fin. I've noticed him flashing/rubbing it on one occasion. Is it ICH?

(Tank is 120L Ferplast Cayman 80, Bluwave 5 filter, airstone, platys, harlequins, rummy-nosed tetras, clown plec and ruby shark. Temp 24c, tested for ammonia, nitrates, nitrites all clear, ph7.5. Treatment with King British Safe guard, aqualibrium, 10% water change every 3-4 days.)

cheers,
Chris

Good morning. I'm not certain that it is ICH. Ich will cause your fish to look like it's been sprinkled with salt. White specks all over. It could be a fungus or even missing a couple of scales. Keep your eye on it.

Well, he's his usual occasionally boisterous self with the other fish, he's my favourite member of the tank so I hope it heals if it is a scratch. I'm at a bit of a loss as to how it's happened though.

The fish I buy have ICH sometimes. Looks like a scratch to me too. Ich is much smaller.

Good morning. TimeKeeper I hope you aren't selecting fish from the pet store that have ICH. If you see fish at your LFS with white spots I highly suggest not buying it! Maybe it would be a good idea to reword your first sentence in post #8. Just a thought.
Ken
ps...sorry aqualoaf, didn't mean to high jack your thread.

Hi there - well, a little time has passed and the white spot has disappeared, so if it was a scratch or a missing scale, it all seems to have healed now. Thanks to everyone for their reassurances!

Thanks again! I might have to get a second tank as he's a bit pushy with the other tank members from time to time. I doubt he'll mellow with age.
