Female Betta and DG?

Hey guys, it's been a while. Things have been going pretty well, so I haven't really needed a huge amount of advice. The only blip on the radar - Keun died. I had to go away for a long weekend and my stupid mother let my youngest cousins come see the fishie. Of course, hearing that he could 'breathe air' they took him out of the tank. "Just for a few seconds!" my mum protests. Yah, well, that few seconds was enough to completely strip his slime coat, thanks. He was dead a day after I got home.

Feeling guilty, she goes out and buys me what she thinks is a pretty, if exhausted plakat to replace my blue VT. No. No, mother, that is not a plakat. That's a female, even if she is blue-brown and painted green-red on her fins. I've called her Ryu, since she does look like a dragon.

"Oh, well that's good, you can put her in with Saix and get some guppies for the small tank!" I severely doubt it, but it did make me wonder. Can a female betta and a Dwarf Gourami get along in a ten-gallon? I've switched my bronze cories out for pygmies, and the other tank in question is a small five-gallon on my dresser. My mum loves guppies, but she refuses to keep fish in her room. Oh, yeah, it's fine to have them in my room, don't mind my sense of privacy at all, this really is a public aquarium. I should start changing a door-fee...

I wouldn't try it. They come from the same family, and DG's & bettas will fight, especially in such a small tank.

*nodnod* I didn't think so, but I was just checking. Is there anyway to tell age, also? Because she seems quite restive and tired compared to Keun.

I usually just guess compared to her size. Females sold in stores generally aren't as good looking as the males at all. Both of my females are rather dull.

Where is the theme music to "The Odd Couple" when you need it?

As stated above, I wouldn't recommend it.
