How Strong are Fish Tanks?

This may sound like a silly question...but will a fish tank ever break if it has no cracks? When I first got my 29 gallon tank I noticed a scratch on the back on the tank. It starts from the bottom plastic and goes up straight for about 4 inches. It seems like it got scratched when the tank was being made and does not seem to be very deep...no leaks as well. I marked the spot to see if it grows, but do you think it will be ok if I put some silicon on it? I am tempted to buy another 29 gallon but I dont want to spend money if everyone thinks it is ok. Thanks!

As long as it is just a surface scratch, it should be fine.

Hi Wolf, it wouldn't hurt to add some silicone. It's a good idea that you marked the point. I don't think getting another 29g is necessary unless your tank is messed up real badly. Good luck!

Hello Wolf. I agree with the above posters. I wouldn't worry to much unless it starts to leak. Adding silicone will not hurt just to be on the safe side. Tanks are going to get scratched over the years.

It's really no big deal unless you can stick a piece of paper all the way through it.

My 55 is scratched up pretty bad, and has some chips along the sides. But it doesn't leak.
