Betta with cherry shrimp?

My betta tank algae problem is getting out of hand!!!!! There is hair algae growing all over the java and on the wall and brownish algae on the walls and it looks terrible. So I was wondering if I could add some cherry shrimp to fight it or would Indy my betta finish them off....

Thanks,

It depends on your betta. Some bettas will totally ignore shrimp while others won't hesitate to eat shrimp, especially if they're small.

An alternative would be snails if you'd be interested or try a larger shrimp like amano shrimp.

good luck

What type of snail would eat hair algae?

Just about any snail will eat algae. Good algae eaters are mystery snails and ramshorn. Common pond snails will eat it also but they'll reproduce really fast. Just be sure not to feed them or they won't eat the algae.

Nerite snails are the best algae eaters, and won't reproduce in FW. Ramshorns or pond snails will quickly become a problem if you overfeed, but will only reproduce according to the avialable food. Other plants, particualrly fast-growing ones like Najas, hornwort, and/or duckweed are helpful for controlling algae by absorbing nutrients in the water.
