brine shrimp

Here's the question... Is it safe to buy a "sea monkey" kit in the toy section
of a store to raise and put them in the aquarium for a tasty treat? Or is it best to raise "brine shrimp" in a certain hatchery? I know the question sounds silly, but not sure if say the "sea monkey" kit would contain any thing harmful that would kill my fish or crash the cycle.

Thanks for putting up with my silly questions!!

I know this question has been asked before, it's not silly at all.
I'm still have problems with the forum or I would look for the links.
Do a search, I'm positive there's a couple of threads about it. You might have to look in the archives.

Sea monkey kits are pretty expensive compared to the brine shrimp hatchery kits aren't they?

Lucy, local Walmart has them for $7.00... it comes with every thing. I'll do a search, thanks!

Are you wanting the sea monkeys to use as food for your fish? If so then it is cheaper for you to invest in Brine shrimp eggs and hatch them yourself. I have them going at all times. It's very easy to do. Get a liter bottle, with siccors cut the bottom out, Keep cap on the top, now set it in a large mouth vase or something big enough to hold it upwards when full of water (cap end down), fill the bottle with warm water (some people use a heater but I don't and they hatch just fine), put a small stone bubbler in the bottle attached to a hose and pump, you'll add about a 1/2 tablespoon of aquarium salt, add about 1 tablespoon of eggs. This will make a large batch. You can make smaller batches if you like. The eggs will hatch 24hrs. later. You can buy eggs on line on Ebay.

Hi Mae. I'd go with the brine shrimp hatchery. Or you could try Whisper's idea. That sounds cool! Maybe I would try it too! But it's very hard for me to find brine shrimp eggs here unless I just get the brineshrimps myself to breed them.

Well, Good luck!
