water changes and temperature fluctuation

i just did a water change and my local water was about 2 degrees higher than my tank water, is that enough to hurt my fish? how do you regulate your local tap water temerature? my fish look fine but i was just wondering. also what do you guys use for water dechlorination?... i use prime, mostly, depending on what my pH is, if its to high or low i use this stuff called proper ph 7.0 . i also have tetraaqua aquasafe. on the prime bottle is says that it detoxifies nitrite and nitrate, what does that mean. well i know what it means but some nitrate is good so why do i need to detoxify it?

I guess it means that it makes nitrite and nitrate unharmful to fish and which i think is impossible or maybe gets rid of the nitrite. Luckily my water and fish tank are both around room temp. I don think two degrees is enough to harm the fish but it might in a water change.

well if the water is that much hotter why dont you gradualy add the water back ? instead of putting the whole %25 of water back in ( or what ever you took out) in one go spread it out so its not such a big shock to them
its what i do but with me its the other way around my tap water is way colder than my tank water so i takes me about 30 mins to replace the water makeing sure that the heater is on and they dont "freak out" lol

I am not sure but surely someone else knows. I would put the water in but don't trust me. It is better safe than sorry. Wait for the other members' reply.
Look at the post above mine it is a good idea

I just gauge my water temp by touch. I've never noticed if it's off a degree or two. If you add the water slowing, that much of a difference shouldn't matter.

Prime detoxifies ammonia and I believe, nitrites. It's not impossible.
Why are you adjusting your pH. In most cases it's better to have a stable pH than trying to mess with it through chemicals.

There's quite a few threads debating different water conditioners and what they do and don't. It's all way over my head. lol
Several members who are well versed in chemistry have explained how certain chemical react with other ones.
You can do a search on the forum if you're interested in reading more about it.

I will the only way I know to make nitrite safe is by bacteria but that is just getting rid of it and not really making it safe.

well my local water has a ph level of 6.6, i thought that was to low for my fish so i try to keep it around 7.0, am i doin the right thing or should i leave it alone. the only time i adjust it is when i gets to high or to low. it doesnt happen very often...

oh and thanks aldric for the advice, i never thought of that. ill try it next time. also the only time my water is to hot is during the summer. i can regulate it during the winter with just turning up the hot water a little. thank guys
