Hi everyone after a few weeks of research it's finally time for me to take out the wallet and start buying stuff for my first tank. I think I have a good handle on the technical aspects like the
nitrogen cycle but had a few questions. Right now I plan on getting a 29G tank but that could increase depending on the feedback I get.
As far as stocking goes my original plan was 4-5 Zebra Danios (hardy, top level), 5-8 Black Neon Tetras (mid level), 4-5 Sterbai Corys (bottom level). The reason I might go bigger than 29G is I would like to add a Bolivian Ram. Does this seem like a workable set-up? Depending on where I look some places say Rams are better in pairs.
Second I was going to get some small diameter smooth black gravel as a substrate. Would this be ideal for the above configuration? Some of the articles I have read say sand for corrys.
Finally is it worth doing a partially planted tank? I would like to try my hand at live plants but I don't think I am ready for a fully planted tank. With live plants I could add a layer of flourite under the gravel/sand.
Thanks for the help,
Nate
