so confused

i am so confused. i woke up this morning and found one of my neon teras dead. last night everything seemed ok. so when i found him dead this morning i was quiet sad. the first thing that came to my mind was that maybe somthing is wrong with the water but when i tested it i found that there was no amonia or nitrite and only a little nitrate. what else could it be? i am worried for my other fish now.

Hello Mandy. I hate to hear that you lost one of your Neons. With your water chemistry being in check it's kind of hard to say what the problem was. There is a possibility that the fish was old when you bought it and if lived its life span. Too, Neons are not the easiest fish to keep in a newly cycled tank. Fish Disease - Neon Tetra Disease
Above is a link you may find helpful.
Again, I'm sorry for your loss and I hope the rest of your fish are going to be ok. Hang on for some more responses

I have found NTD to be very deadly... I once bought 10 Neons. About a month later... No neons.

I'm really sorry about your neons.
Like Ken said, they're not very hardy.
How many neons do you have? Is there anything else in the tank with them?
Neons really do need a bigger tank than a 30 liter.

Without any physical symptoms it's hard to say what going on, other than the wrong tank size.
I know it's so sad to lose fish. If it was NTD, they'd have some physical symptoms.
At this point, all you can do is keep your eye on them.
Good luck, I hope you're remaining 3 stay well.
