Hello,

I am looking for a book that covers as wide of range as possible of freshwater fish. I'd like there to be a nice photo of each type of fish along with information about each kind such as water parameters, temperament, size, breeding info, etc.

I've been looking at the recommended books on fishlore as well as researching them on Amazon and am still not sure which to get.

What's your favorite book about the various fish types?

I have Animal Planet's Guide to Freshwater Aquariums. Not many fish profiles, but great information on setting up and maintaining.

If you're looking for fish profile specifically, Tropical Fish Hobbyist magazines advertise books like "Encyclopedia to Exotic Tropical Fish" and "500 Freshwater Aquarium Fish". I'm not sure about prices, but these are both availble from Amazon.

Hmm... I do have a very good book that I highly recommend however right now it's at my apartment in saskatoon. It's a 3 part book and has not only 100's of fish profiles but plants as well. There is also a smaller section on tank-setup and disease... I'll see if I can find the name of it written down here somewhere...

Mine has got to be 'The Interpet encyclopedia of freshwater tropical aquarium fishes' by Dick Mills and Dr.Gwynne Vevers. Origionally published in 1999! It's still got loads of accurate info and beautiful photos for almost every fish, along with a little diagram that compares the fish in question to the size of a 6cm fish, which is cool as it gives you a god perspective of the size. The only problem is, I can't put it down without juggling my stocking plans around in my head so I can have that fish lol...

There's a great book as far as picture quality and accurate info on fish profiles. I don't have one but plan to get it (one bookstore has it locally but at quite expensive price: 200USD). It's a huge volume authored by Herbert Axelrod that is not easy to find (I haven't in Amazon). Unfortunately I don't recall the exact name but I think it is like "Encyclopedia of Freshwater Fish".
