where is the...

Where is the WOW factor? I've had the aquarium for awhile now, at first I was really happy with it... but now it seems the wow factor is gone. Not sure if that makes sense or not... I just look at my tank, and I don't see any thing special or neat about it. I am happy that I added the two parrot fish, they're starting to come out a lot more and I've actually caught them eating last night for the first time which was cool to watch. I don't know... the tank just looks blah to me.

What have some of you done to regain the wow factor of your aquarium? I don't know if I should have stocked it differently... now that I think about it, I think I wouldn't have put zebra danios in but maybe another small school of fish instead.

Any ways... I guess I just had to vent a little...

Thanks,
Mae

Can you post a pic?
How about a backround? A new plant or a piece of driftwood? Even a new big rock that you find??

And let's never underestimate the power of a new decoration and watching them enjoy swimming around and through it

agrees with the others. try makeing the insides diff, for example when i get my new 4foot tank im going to use slate to build a little cave fish city for the fish to swim into and hide and stuff how about if u did something like that? it will give you something to do and it will be a one off design that no one else has and you wil get the enjoyment of watching the fish explor

i breed fish to keep the wow in fish keeping. You always have to watch and see when a female and male are pairing off, keep an eye of the young, get to watch the fry develop their coloring

I hate to say it, but when my "wow" factor gets really low, and im sure it does with everyone now and then, I get another tank....so the prescription for lack of "wow" is MTS

I re-aquascape and use lots of plants. Your parrots probably won't allow you to use live plants, but it can be fun to experiment with silk or plastic ones. New decorations are always nice- I prefer driftwood and rock to artificial ornaments but it's all a matter of preference. If you want, you can make some caves with rocks that you like by using aquarium silicone to glue them together. Just make sure you let the silicone cure as per the instructions.

Hello ProudMom. Sorry you aren't feeling the wow right now. I am glad to hear that your two parrots are starting to come out and about. It does take a while for them as you see.

Try a decoration makeover ProudMom. Shawnie has the best idea MTS! Or consider just going to a larger tank and just having the one. Rearrange the room the tank is in? Just a few ideas. I'm sure you'll get the wow back

I just rearange the tank a bit, or maybe get some new decorations. It's almost as good ( well not quite ) as getting a new tank..............

Shawnie hit it on the nose. There's nothing quite like that new tank rush. However redoing your tank can come close. It can keep you and your fish happy. Every couple of months or so I tinker with my tanks. Sometimes I just move the driftwood into a different position, or silicone a few rocks togeather to make something new of the tank. Other times I've torn it all down done a huge water change and the only thing left the same other then the fish is the gravel.

Good luck and I hope you find a way to bring the wow back.

There is also a great WOW when/if your fish have babies or lay eggs..and watching the little ones grow.

I agree with the re-decorating idea. I would love to start MTS, but we really dont have the room (or money!) for that. I've had my 55 gal set up since Jan. and I havent done much to change it, other than a few new plants. I'm thinking about a new background and changing out my decor with something new. Maybe the awesome 3 part broken ships I've been seeing......

im like you and the backgrounds...I use wrapping paper as backgrounds because its cheap, fun colors, fun styles, and you can change it constantly to get a new look for the tank without spending a ton of money!! our dollar store has a huge section of wrapping papers

All wonderful responses to regaining the wow factor of fish keeping!
I also love to redecorate.
Add plants.. decorations... rocks, DW.. anything that will change it around to include if you have the room a new fish or two. lol That always works for me!
