Something that Made Me Upset

Hello Everyone, I am helping a friend do a fishless cycle and now that his cycle was complete, he got a few fish. He had 4 tiny Tinfoil Barbs in his 29 gallon. He said his local fish store told him that they would be fine in a tank 30 gallons plus and would only grow to 8 inches. Anyway I told him to join this fourm to figure out what he should put in his tank, he wants 2 angel fish now...do you think that will work? Sorry I just had to vent! I am upset that someone who sell a person these fish that need a large tank.

If he removes the Tinfoil Barbs, he should be fine with two Angels in there.

I agree with removing the tinfoils, but would cut it down to only one angel. A properly kept angel can grow quite large. I've kept an adult in a 29 and while it didn't seem too crowded for it, I would consider a 29 minimum size for one adult angel. I kept mine with a school of green fire tetras and a couple of Bolivian rams and it was a very interesting community.

Hi WolfPack,

Lots of good advice, and I will have to second some of it. I hate it too when staff at the LFS try to sell you something, and lie about things just to get you to buy it. Frustration aside, I would either tell your friend to get a much bigger tank, or remove the tinfoil barbs. The angelfish, like everyone has been saying would be okay, but only one. Angelfish can grow much larger than their average if kept properly, and develop quite a personality, and even become attached to you.

Good luck to you and your friend!
