Stocking and additional questions

Hi I'm New to fishlore and had a couple of questions about my first tank.
I am buying a 29 gallon aquarium kit soon. This kit includes a glass aquarium, a filter, a heater, and a hood/light. I am not sure on the specifics of the filter, heater, or hood/light. But I was thinking of a tank setup and I wanted to run it by you guys. So far I am thinking of sand as a substrate, and the fish as follows: 2 German Blue Rams (1 male, one female), 2 cory cats, 6 Cardinal tetras,3 Red Wagtail Platies, and also a couple of Malaysian Trumpet Snails. Also, an additional question I had is if any of my fish have fry what should I do with them? Should I sell them to a petstore? If not please tell me what to do. Thank you!

WELCOME TO FISHLORE! The easiest way to combat fry is only have male platies

Cory cats need to be in schools, so I'd boycott the tetras and add two more corydoras.

It may be difficult to get a male and female ram to live together, you'll need a proven breeding pair, and that gets very expensive, and you get a lot of fry. I'd go with just one. ALso, they are senstivie to new tanks, so add him 6 months are the first fish aare added.

I'm sure you're aware of the nitrogen cycle and how to cycle fishless, but sxtill click on the highlighted thingy and make sure

Good luck!

Welcome to Fishlore!! Emily has you covered on everything that you need to know.
I think a good stocking list for the 29 is: 1X Blue ram, 4-5 corycats, 3 platys( all of 1 gender to avoid fry) , a few malysian trumpet snails. Good luck!! Is your tank going to be planted(real or fake plants?) Sand is a good substrate for corys.

Welcome!!!

I certainly wish I had known about this site BEFORE I got my tanks set up and stocked!

Definitely only get one gender of platy!!! Or *any* livebearer for that matter!

I currently have 23 platy fry in a fry tank, 4 pregnant platies and 3 pregnant balloon mollies! I've already separated the males from the females but this fry thing could go on for a while. I posted some really detailed pictures under the "livebearers" section of the forum to help you sex them if you don't know how.

Remember that the females will likely be pregnant when you buy them and can store sperm for 6 months! However, having too many males in a tank can cause competition and bullying situations. I have 3 male platies in each of my "boys only" tanks.

I hope this helps and congratulations!!!
