| need help on 0.5 Gallon Tank Hi,
I had a 0.5 gallon tank as my birthday present.
and cycled the tank fishless, but i got some question on the activated carbon filter.
As i put in a plant that tie with a wood ( i don't know the name of the plant) so the water became yellowish/brownish after adding the plant.
I was thinking of adding some activated carbon to the filter, but how much do i need to add in ?
1. what i got here is a big pack in 150g, how much do i need to add in for a half gallon tank ?
2. and what is the idea amount of fish to add in ?
3. can i add in a snail or 2 ?
Thanks |

| You cannot keep any fish in a tank under 2gallons maybe a shrimp or snails |

| You actually don't need carbon in a tank. The brown color of your water is most likely due to the leaching of the wood. No fish in that small of a tank. Shrimp you could put up to 10 like cherry's or ghost and snails depends on the type. Rams horns are nice and dont get to big. |

| Welcome to Fish Lore
I'm a little confused. I'm not sure you can properly cycle or heat a 0.5g tank.
You might want to consider making it a nice terrarium or just keep shrimp.
Unfortunatly, it's too small for any fish. |

| Hello, wlecome to Fish lore.
for your tank you don't need carbon (or very much) unless you want to get rid of the yellowish color of the water. Carbon is normally used to rid the water of chemicals and medicines.
there aren't any fish i can think of the would thrive. I've tried to put one myself in a 0.5 gal myself and it didn't work out. maybe an invert or two.
good luck |

| Everyone hit this one on the head regarding stocking. As far as I'm aware there aren't any heaters that can safely heat a half gallon of water, they're designed for 2 gals at least. |

| yeah thats good advice, i saw some adds that said you could put a betta in these little things, but that would be horrible for the fish. its amazing what companies do to make money. |

| Good morning. Welcome to Fish Lore! That's a nice little tank! If you do decide to use carbon to remove the tannis from the water 1/2 a cup should do fine. Change it after 3 weeks.
Have fun setting up the new tank. |

| You could have some nice shrimp in there, or drain the water and make it a terrarium for some crickets or something. They are surprisingly interesting to watch! If you where going to go for a snail, get a nerite snail. Apple snails will get too big. |

Does the tank have a lid (the pic didn't look it)
Shrimp will jump. A quick and easy lid for something like that is the plastic mesh craft sheets from walmart or the craft store. |

| I think you should keep cherry shrimp in there, they're nice and small (so no high jumps) and with good planting, it should make an mini planted tank, sounds good to me. |

Males should be OK as long as there isn't to many in a 10gal but I agree it is deffinately minimum! |
