water test levels

So at what levels should i be worred with my nitrite, nitrate, and if i am right i dont want any ammonia levels. Please help me out still trying to understand the cycle better. I learn better doing then reading so please work with me. Thank you for your help.

you want 0 for ammonia / nitrites, and under 20 nitrates...some like them under 10 ...each person is different

Your ammonia and nitrite levels should be 0 and your nitrates should be between 5-10.

Fish produce ammonia, which is toxic to them. Ammonia is broken down into nitrites by nitrifying bacteria. Nitrites are also toxic to them. Another bacteria comes along and breaks the nitrites into nitrates, which are then "kept in check" by water changes.
