Oh gosh that is huge. I had fish with intestinal prolapse before but none that were pregnant. That has to hurt. I'm sorry. Did you try separating her and giving here pealed peas to see if the is constipated too? If it don't get better with this I don't know I would let her be and see.

Oh Matt, I feel so sorry for you and your friend. Is there any way you can get some clove oil? I don't know what else you could do for her...thoughts are with you.

I would try a health food store if you have one, maybe a grocery store? My LFS uses just vodka but I am not sure how quickly that would work. Maybe PM Shawnie or Lucy for some advice. Again, I am so sorry. Hang in there.

I am so sorry about this ordeal you and your female fancy guppy are going through.

At this point I would place her in 100% R/O processed water and dose Epsom Salt, lowering temp to 74-75F. Then I would keep doing several partial water changes daily and if she is making it, I would dose her with strong antibiotics, like Kanaplex.

Best of lucks.

the vodka method is quick but can be inhumane. If you dont feel comfortable euthanizing her have someone else do it for you, like your dad.
sorry matt, but at this point she is suffering alot and i would just stop her from being in pain. There are other methods for euthanizing fish. You can freeze a ziploc bag with water and put her in there and put the bag back in the freezer for a couple hours.

Sorry your guppy isn't better!

You can find clove oil at some of the larger GNC stores. That's where I finally found some.

Clove oil is commonly called eugenol. It's found with the toothache products in many drugstores.

That's right Russ, this can happen if there's an intestinal blockage which would first cause the bloat.

This has just broken my heart to see and read.......so sad. We should really find a way to talk about euthanasia of our fishes when like this fish they are suffering so much. I do believe in letting nature take it's course, but only if I don't have to sit back and watch it.
I for one am soooo sorry you had to watch her die like that

Matt,

We know you're hurting right now. It's obvious you really cared for her. Please remember that guppies are a very popular fish, so they are overbred. It was nothing you did and you gave her the best home you could while you had her.

Hang in there, man. We're here if you need us.

Oh Matt...I am so sorry that you lost her. I just read this entire thread and I have tears in my eyes over the whole thing...it sounds like a devastating nightmare. It is a horrible thing to witness that in any fish, but I imagine it is only worse because she was your first fish...did any of her previous fry survive?
