Snails are great for communities, however they breed very quickly if the temp is right. they are great for eating algae and leftover food

my favorite of all snails, would have to be the Golden inca snail. Its shell is very pleasing to the eye

I think it would depend on the kind of snail you want. Pond snails and ramshorns will fill up you tank if you are not careful. "Mystery" snail lay their eggs above water and you can remove them so no babies if you don't want them. There are some that can live in freshwater but only hatch eggs in salt or brackish and I cannot remember the name off of the top of my head. My suggestion is to research and see what you want for your tank. My favorite place for snail info is applesnail.net go there and if you look around you will be able to find out about any snail.

I have 3 olive nerite snails and they only breed in salt water, but they are wonderful cleaners and those combined with shrimp keep my tank crystal clear.

There is that name I could not think of. Thank you so much it was driving me bonkers trying to remember it.

My MTS (Malaysian trumpet snails) are great for preventing toxic gas pockets from forming in my sand substrate, and they are experts at eating algae and uneaten fish food. They are ideal for planted tanks with sand substrate. MTS do multiply like mad, so you need to make sure not to overfeed them. I just wish that MTS had more vibrant color varieties.

I have one black mystery snail and one golden mystery snail. These snails are not very useful for moving around sand substrate, but they have beautiful colors.

I don't remember if I saw it on Ebay or Aquabid but I do remember seeing some different shades of colors of the mts. Check and see and if I see it again I will let you know.

I just fell in love with my "mystery" snails and I am still collecting different colors of them.
