I set up my new 20 galH tank for my son. I purchased a decorative dinosaur aerator. It's mouth makes a chomping motion when enough bubbles build up and force jaws to open. The bubbles it creates are huge and really swishes the surface of the water around! The pump I am using is an Rena Air 20. It has no "throttle" control to reduce the bubbles. I am thinking of returning the pump and getting the Rena Air 10. The dinosaur is about 8 inches high and looks really cool. I was thinking of muzzling the jaws so it wouldn't create such huge bubbles. Is it ok to have A LOT of surface motion in the tank? Do certain fishes not do well in this type of environment? I plan on adding some corys and platys.

yeah u might have to much, lol. u can get a smaller pump or get a little vavle that will comtrol the air flow to your tank, i cant remember what they are called. most pet stores have them though.

ROFL. That surely looks great! Personally I would leave it as it is if the stocking plan allows it. I don't think you'll get over-saturated in O2 this way.

Hello Jerry. Your tank looks GREAT! A lot of surface movement is good for the health of your fish and tank adding oxygen into the water. I think it's the force of the bubble the dinosaur makes that could possibly be disturbing to fish. Once your tank is cycled, see how the fish you add react and then go from there as far as softening the bubble, so to speak. Thanks for sharing the video. I love the dinosaur!

The stocking plan is a couple swordtails and 2 cats or a couple platys and 2 cats...either one more or less sensitive to movement in a tank?

I did get a valve that slows the bubbles a bit.

My son LOVES the dinosaur, too.

Thanks everyone. I started a fishless cycle today. I added pure ammonia and currently reading 4ppm. Now comes the part where I have to explain to my 3 yr old that we have to wait to add fish! Wish me luck...

good luck, lol, my wife still wonders why there is no fish in the tank after 3 weeks, she said we should just put it up without fish, lol, hopefully he'll understand
