going on vacation

I was wondering about the lighting. I am not able to get a timer soon enough. I do have someone coming to feed the fish but what about the lighting. It is mandatory to have lights? What are the cons of not having it on for a week. My tank does not get 12hr a day unless it is the weekend as I turn them on when I get home from work and leave on until I go to bed (about 6-7 hrs). Thanks

not sure I will have time and not sure what to look for in a timer.....

is it the same as an appliance timer (used most commonly for lamps) or something special for aquariums?

what would happen to the fish without lights for a week?

Hello redlessi. I think the worst thing that can happen with no lights would be algae problems. Nothing to really worry about as far as the health of your fish. Any timers will work...I bought mine at WalMart fairly cheap. It doesn't have to be one just for aquariums. Have a GREAT vacation and keep yourself safe.
