Any one use these?

Hi dose anyone use these things in there aquarium http://www.onedersave.com/

they look really cool but $$$$$

here is a quote from the faq: Q: How do I know if I need to change the water?
A: Once EcoBio-Block starts working, you shouldn’t have to change the water under normal conditions for 1 to 2 years. You will, however; need to add water due to the evaporation process. You also need to check ammonia, nitrite and nitrate levels as usual. Sudden changes in amount of fish or other abnormal conditions may cause high levels of ammonia, nitrites or nitrates and may then require a partial water change.

hmmm Matt, I have no idea about this product, but have to say Im really surprised at the photo they used on their site. The baby with its hands smacking the glass of a Discus tank? There is no way those fish would be calm and swimming with that going on lol. They would be hiding in a corner and darkened with stress. Looking at the photo, I think that they used a photo inside the tank. I know its off topic.. but it really surprised me to see that lol...

On topic... hopefully someone may have used this product and can give you some advice on it.

Crazy. Snake oil IMO. Won't have to change tank water for 1-2 years?! BS. If anything you're going to have massive buildups of detritus which will just be a giant pool of mud on the bottom of the tank. Same with uneaten food. This is crazy.

Cool looking Rocks but then I'm a rock lover Beneficial Bacteria would grow on them very well but on the page that explains how they work it says"EBB bacteria are grass bacillus subtilis natto" while the Beneficial bacteria that cycles our tanks and keeps them cycled are Nitrosomas and Nitrobacters so yep it's snake oil Would love to just have the rocks though

Good morning. I've never used this product either and I think this question has come up before and we all came to the same conclusion. NOT Without fresh water the fish just are not going to survive for any length of time. I wouldn't risk my fishes life just to test the product.

Exactly right! I got so enthused over the looks of the rocks and didn't realize they were suggesting no water changes DUH!!
Fish and plants use minerals up out of the water and they have to be replenished with water changes as well as remove the gunk out of the substrate with substrate vacuums. UGH! I don't want to imagine how my 75g would look without water changes. This is the poop meister tank

The guys on Pet Fish Talk have used these, and also tested plain lava rock (purchased from Home Depot for use in charcoal grills). They had luck with both, but recommend them as an added safety net rather than suggest you quit changing your water.

What sets the lava rock apart is the anaerobic bacteria living deep inside, which breaks down nitrate (I think into nitrogen gas).

This product has been discussed at FishChannel.com forum also. Here I found at http://board.fishchannel.com/Topic18...t=ecobio+block
The moderator of this forum seems love this product. Take a look.
Sounds very good product to me. I'll try it when I get next social security check.
