hmm.. well in a 20 gal you could add some guppies or mollies. they are pretty hardy fish, my only concern is that your gourami might want to eat the fry if they get any. you could do a couple of cory catfish fo bottowm dwellers. or you could try some otto cat fish.or a bristlenose pleco or rubber lip pleco

why are you asking about fish that dont die? why would any fish die? is the tank new? is it cycled? most all fish will do great in a tank thats been cycled and some do better in newly cycled tanks than others....

i agree with shawnie, why do u want fish that dont die. if ur looking for a pet that doesnt require alot of attention then why do u want fish.

Harliquins seem to be pretty hardy, but without proper care, all fish will die.

Without due care and attention, all fish will die eventually. Generally speaking Danios are the hardiest fish. As Shawnie said, a fish in a cycled tank shouldn't be dropping like flys.
If the tank is cycled, are the parameters in check, and why would you want a hardy fish etc, just to know what to reccomend

Good morning Fishy. I think research is key here. Knowing what your fish need and like and too most of all that the tank is cycled properly as stated in some posts above. True, some fish are more hardy than others. For example Neons, they are also a hardy fish when given the proper care, acclimating them into a well established tank (several months old) instead of a newly cycled tank will help them to live out their life span.

Could it be that you are looking for fish with a longer life span?

hi all,

my fish are ok... it's just that i had a pleco die recently, and it made me sad. i also made the mistake of buying those neon tetras, which died immediately. petco said that's common and i shouldn't buy neon tetras ever. so i was hoping to get some fish that are hardy and will last a LONG time. my parameters:

nitrate: 0
nitrite: 0
chlorine: 0
hardness: 75 (soft)
alkalinity: 80 (moderate)
pH: 7.2 (neutral)
ammonia: 0

however, i do wonder if my tank is too hot or cold. right now it's at 80 degrees.

Hi Fishy, how long has your tank been cycled? Since your tank was only started in June, could it be you added too many fish too soon? Are you maybe in a mini cycle? I know a live plant can keep your nitrates low. Neon tetras prefer a tank that has been established for a while, not sure about the pleco. How are your other fish acting? Sorry for all the questions. Above posts are good suggestions for "hardy" fish, but nothing will thrive or survive if there is something else up with your tank. Let us know. Good luck

Hi Fishy!
Your water readings should show at least SOME nitrates. Is it possible that the tank has not completed its cycle? Do you know about the nitrogen cycle?
