Weight Question

I don't know if anyone can help me here or not, but here's trying:

I found a 55 gallon aquarium on Craigslist with a stand for $50. I'm supposed to go tonight to look at it and pick it up.

We don't know if the stand is particle board or wood.

Does anyone have a general idea on how much the aquarium (no water or substrate or anything in it) would weigh?

Also, does anyone have a general idea on how much the stand would weigh?

The reason I'm asking is my friend (who said he could help me whenever I found a tank) is busy tonight and if I don't pick up the tank tonight, I couldn't get it until Thursday, which wouldn't be fair to the owner to hold it that long if she can sell it before then.

That means it would be me and my 11 year old daughter and I'm trying to figure out if we can unload it by ourselves or if I need to wait for help.

A 55 gallon tank weights about 75-80lbs empty. Stands feel lighter than that to me (assuming it's a typical aquarium stand, and not some custom oak/iron piece), but I don't know for sure.

Thank you. It sounds like if her husband helps us load it, we should be able to unload it. I really appreciate your help

Gosh, I hate being single sometimes. Both me and my daughter have to do all of the heavy lifting.

That much, Mathas? Wow. I would have guessed 30, but seeing as how I don't have one and have never lifted one, what the heck would I know? :P

edit: seems to be the same data Shawnie posted

Being single is what started the MTS, so yeah, it has it's benefits

I just hate the heavy lifting.

My fiancee of three years broke up with me about two months ago. He had "let me" get one tank. Now that he's gone, I've kinda decided that I can "let me" have as many tanks as I can safely afford and keep good water parameters on and handle the weekly water changes.

What's going to be interesting is how am I going to find someone who can put up with all the tanks and fish looking at him from every room on the first floor? Especially now that I have Karma and she's in the bedroom RIGHT NEXT TO THE BED! She's a people watcher, too. That'll be fun! Thanks goodness I own my own home. I'd get kicked out of an apartment by now.

Thanks guys for all of the input and the links! They were very helpful I just told my daughter! She's excited!

Here comes the African Cichlid tank (Shawnie, you started this, you know that, right?)

Oh boy, I keep trying to get a third cat, but then talk myself out of it because of the man factor (factor being I don't have one yet). While I know that my man will have to be an animal lover, I don't want to have too much family of my own should he have two dogs or his own two cats and 8 fish tanks . . .

I hear ya. But let's be honest, don't we always hear (not sure if I believe this or not) that if a man truly loves us, he'll love our animal-nurturing side as well?

I've kinda decided that my animals are more loyal and dedicated than any man I've ever met.

One of my dogs has been with me through TWO (I think this gonna last forever) relationships. He's still here and well, they're kinda not. I was engaged to both of them (not at the same time, of course).

When you meet your forever mate, you can always add another room to your house for your fish tanks

My luck with men is so bad, I wish I wasn't straight so I could at least double my chances

Yes, you should build custom stands. I had to buy a computer desk at an estate sale to hold up one of my 29 gallons because I couldn't find a stand that I felt would not break under the weight of the tank + water + substrate.

Where's the pics of the stand?

I wanna see
