| How do i pick the right aquaruim heaters Ive been looking for aquaruim heaters. There are so many and i have no idea what types or what wattage to get, ive never had to buy one before this is my secound tank and the first i was lucky enough to recive the heater in a kit with the tank... i have gone onto bigger and better things in the hobby (though i still have the little 5 gallon which im thingking about moving the zebra danios that inhabit it into a tetra 55g tank here as soon as possible) and want to start keeping cichlids in a community tank, a 55 g. what should i get? |

| I like the visi-therm stealth heaters. Petmountain.com has a good price on them.
For a 55g, 200 or 250 watt. |

| I personally like the Marineland heaters (available at Petsmart) because you can adjust the temperature by degrees, not low-high. Mine do really well at keeping the temperature constant in my aquariums.
On the outside of the package, it shows wattage and tank size.
Hope this helps. |

The deluxe, I believe is glass, the visi-therm made of unbreakable plastic. |

| Sweet. Thanks Lucy! Unbreakable plastic is safer. I'm going to check on mine to see if I have the visi-therm or the deluxe.
Always good to learn new things |

| your welcome.
Glass heaters make me nervous.
The Stealth is more expensive then the Deluxe, but it won't break if for some reason it's taken out of the water. It's got an auto-shut off for that as a precaution. |

| I use Ebo Jagers primarily and have had great luck with them. I also have a Stealth and it's done quite well too. |

| I recently changed all of my Visa Therm stealths out for Ebo Jagers. Ebos are glass but to me they seem much more reliable. They have a light on them unlike the stealths so i can see they are on. I've also had bad luck of getting multipule Visa Therms that don't work straight out of the box. So i switched. Very happy with Ebo Jager.
If you are careful, glass shouldn't matter.
I recently had another incident with a Visa Therm Stealth. This heater hadn't worked for....weeks or more. But i left it in the tank. I eventually drained the tank but left the heater in there, accidentally still plugged in too. Well, it starts working a week after the tank has been emptied. Could of easily burned down my house. Its hard for me to trust Visa Therms after that. |

| I bought an ETH In-Line Heater for my 46 gallon bowfront (still fishless cycling). It goes outside the tank and works with a canister filter. I like that it's out-of-sight and doesn't take up room inside the tank. So far it keeps the temperature perfectly steady, too. |

| I use a delta-therm. Very cheap and work like a charm. They're solid glass, have a light on to see when it's on or when it's shut off. My little 25W cost me $15, and has been nothing but a joy to have.
In my 20 gallon I;ve got a visi-therm stealth. My next door neighbour had it specially shipped over! That heater too, is very reliable, but a little more costly lol. |

| I use the Visi Therm Stealths as well. The only draw back, as mentioned above, it doesn't have a light to tell you when it's on. But then, you can always feel them to check and check your thermometer. I've had them for several years. |

| I'm still cycling (fishless) but I bought a Visi-therm deluxe a few weeks back. The temperature has stayed stable, and what I have it set to. |
