Molly laying on bottom

Not sure what is happening to my black molly. He is usually very active, but since yesterday, he just lays on the bottom of the tank. Every so often he moves. Not sure why, since the other fish in the tank are very active. Earlier in the week, my Mickey Mouse platy died unexpectedly. Tomorrow I plan to take a water sample to the petstore for a reading. Yesterday I did a 20% water change. Anyone know what would cause this or maybe it's not an issue. Thanks

I'm sorry about your fish.
It's hard to say, you're taking the first step to figure out whats going on by getting your water checked. It would be a good idea to get your own liquid test kit. A lot of store use the strips, which can be inaccurate.
Ask them what the exact numbers are for ammonia, nitrite and nitrate.
Have you added anything new to the tank lately?

there may not be a problem. have you added any new fish recently, the fish may be under some stress. i notice when i added my latest molly, my other two mollies acted strangely and avoided the new fish. I have three mollies on their own in a tank, and from time to time they tend to float motionless at the bottom about 2cm off the bottom (not dead by the way). There is nothing wrong with my mollies so there may be nothing wrong with yours, but still be cautious, and like you say, get your water checked.
