Can I Plant now?

My 40g is just starting on it’s fishless cycle. When should I plant? Wait till nitrates come up?

The tank has been seeded with substrate from another tank.

You can add plants whenever you want. Fast growing plants can even help to speed up your cycle.

I agree with harpua2002. Go ahead and plant your tank.
Another benefit to doing so is that it will allow plants time to get settled in before adding fish.

Plant away! Plant away! Make sure you got the right lighting for your plants. I would start out with the easier, low light ones. Java moss, Java fern are great starters. I love planted tanks

I have 40 watt bulb in my 48" hood. I've planted bulbs wife picked up for the tank, I updated my tank info with what they are. It's great that she is involved too.
