Keep the Ph stable

Looks like the 55g will FINALLY get underway today. Quick question...does driftwood always lower the pH? Righ now BP is in a tank with stable PH of about 7.6. I have a beatutiful piece of driftwood (from salt water) that I would like to put into the new 55g. (it has been scrubbed boiled etc ). I was planning on using all my stored media to cycle quickly (could even move over current filter) BP really needs to get into a bigger tank. How do I make sure there is not a drastic change in PH? Thanks in advance

I believe that driftwood will lower the ph slowly over time, but I'm no expert on this subject so maybe someone will chime in.

Hello Kimb. Here is a link concerning driftwood. I used cypress stumps for a long time and my tanks didn't experience any sudden drops in pH. This was years ago with different fish than I have now.
Will be looking forward to pictures
Take care!

I use a product I got at my LFS called API proper pH. It works instantly and keeps my pH stable always.

I wouldnt use any chemicals to alter or stablize the ph..99% of the time, you have to add the product forever or have a big crash...id test your tap water and compare that to the tank your BR is in....if there is a huge change, just acclimate him slowly into a container with his tank water, and the new water you will use in the 55 gal..if they are not off by much, you can acclimate for less time ...the ph will not drop fast with driftwood...it does happen slowly as JD said....I cant wait to see pics either!!!! im so happy for you!

I would avoid using chemicals to alter the ph. The driftwood will lower the ph gradually and naturally.

I agree with the no chems Shawnie, I wasn't sure how to get her in there without shocking her if the tank was different. My tap and tank pretty much run the same. I am happy for me too! Tank is not yet underway (it is somewhere in the province, just not my part of the province, but today or tomorrow for sure! Will have pics up as soon as I am able...thanks as always

whahoooooooo having a ph the same is so much easier..now it would just be an easy acclimation to the temps and poof ...the cycling will be the part as you know ...but having not to worry about ph will help you so very much! cant wait for the pics
