| Omg!!! Someone please help!! I was sitting in front of my aquarium tonight, and something caught my eye. It was the teeniest little baby...something....
I think it's a baby fish, but it's really just a set of big eyes, and a see through body. I am new to all of this, have had my 15 gallon tank for a little over a month now. I have 1 siamese algae eater, 1 male and 1 female guppy, and 6 neon tetras. My tank is planted with live plants.
My question is this:
I scooped the little fella out of the tank, but this is so completely unexpected, that I don't know what to do with it! I have it sitting in my shrimp net right now, with the bottom of the net in the water, so that maybe an inch and half is submerged, with the little gaffer in there. I put some frozen food in ( brine shrimp or bloodworm), and it looked like it took a mouthful.
Can I keep it in a cup overnight so that the other fish don't spill the net, along with the little wee baby?? And then they would eat it..
what to do, what to do.....
Thanks,
~Amber |

| i would say to try and leave him in the net until you can get a breeder net for him to live in |

| I now have 3 all together...sheesh...where the heck did they come from??
I scooped the 3 and put them into a bowl with a few cups of the aquarium water, and some pieces of the plants from the tank as well. The other fish were poking the shrimp net where I had the babies secured, and the net was being moved around.
I am going to go first thing in the morning and get a breeder net for them.
Thanks for the reply! |

| They will almost certainly be baby Guppies, and should do fine in a breeder net until they're big enough to be moved back into the tank. Feed them crushed flake or baby brine shrimp. |

| from the sounds of it you didn't know that guppies are catergorized as "livebearers." for obvious reasons lol. unlike most fish who lay eggs, guppies give birth to live babys. some of the most common livebearers are guppies, platties, mollies, and swordtails. and congrats grandma!!! |

| Guppys! I got a bun!ch of Endler babies. I'm just letting them free swim. No one seems to be bothering them, I'm just feeding everyone more so they don't get hungry, |

Thanks everyone...
I did know that guppies are livebearers, because I had read up on them. However, I did not realize that my pushy female guppy was preggers!!! I did have some suspicions about one of my neon tetras, because it looked kink of oddly bulgey (if that is even a word), and I know that it is pretty rare for them to have babies in a tank. Well, I guess it will be neat to see the little critters get bigger....
The only question is, what do I do with them once they get bigger?? I only have a 15 gallon tank, and this is my first time owning owning fish. I don't want to crowd it. Do fish stores take them?? |

| Bring em to your LFS and ask for credit for them. I've got my LFS all ready to buy my Endler babies.
By the way, I've decided to put the babies into a lil 5g with a sponge filter. Mostly due to not wanting to over crowd the tank. |

| Soooooo....
I went to my pet shop today (the staff there must be sick of me now...I have had my tank for about a month and half, and I have been in there sooo many times already!!), and asked if they would buy any new fish, and they said they would do credit. Works fine for me!
I picked up a good size breeder net, and some fry food (my dogs went ballistic from the smell of the food!). The 3 babies that I found are in there, and are eating. They look like they grew today while I was out!! I had stashed them in big bowl with a couple pieces of loose plant and a tiny bit of crushed up flake.
Does anyone know if the mum gives birth to all of the fry within the same period of time? I have been watching her closely this evening, and she is acting pretty weird, and she still has a gravid spot. The male has been relentless in his pursuit of her, and he has been doing that funny little "S" dance all night. He has mated with her a few times, so I am expecting more babies (sigh)...I guess what I am wanting to know is if she is still pregnant, since she still looks like it.
Can you tell that this is my first ever tank?? LOL |

| Female Guppies can give birth multiple times. They have the ability to store the ... so they can give birth many times. if all of the fry survived there should be around 30 |

| she's probably acting weird because she's stressed from the male. Is it just her and the male? or are there more in the tank? What i used to notice with my female, was that she wouldnt drop unless she felt safe. I had her in a maternity9which i guess is a breeder net) and she gave birth there, the first time she gave birth to like 7 but then the other fish ate most of them. I've read they can keep the other male's ***** for up to two more births. |

| well, here's a tremendously sad update. I purchased another female guppy to give the mum a break from the male in the tank (he was constantly after her), and within 4 days of me having the new female guppy in the tank, I realized that she was sick. I figured it to be fin rot, so removed her from the tank, and brought her back to the store. They were more than happy to take her back, and to put her in one of their hospital tanks to heal her.
So they gave me another female guppy to replace her.
I treated the tank with a 5 day course of Mardel, and did a major water change.
But, alas, the mum that had the babies got fin rot as well. Despite the Mardel, putting her in a breeding net to give her some space from the other fish, especially the male guppy, giving her salt baths, and trying another product called General Aid, which is designed to help with fin rot, she succumbed to it today.
I feel really horrible that I didn't save her, because it looked incredibly painful.
So, RIP guppy mama... |

So, RIP guppy mama... | Im so sorry to hear of your guppy passing on. I hope that you find some research and helpful tools on treating fin rot, and about using salt baths. They can be extremely hard on your fish. I would like to know about the product general aid, and how is it used for treating fin rot. rip guppy mama |
