Whats a good Filter for 10G tank

On my other thread.... I had a little newbie accident. I didn't wash out the carbon good enough and I turned my tank into the black cloud. I took out all the carbon and I'm looking for an alternative. I would like to get a not so expensive but quite filter that is hooked on to the top. Any suggestions? Also I have 2 parrots in there and I'm using blue lights. I was wondering what color light would really bring out the orange in them.

Hi Simon, maybe try a Stingray 10? Even a 5 might do!!! They are Internal with suckers. I have a 10 in my 10G Coldwater Tank and It's been doing a good job. I'm not that clued up on equipment to be honest, so you'll probably get better answers.

I have only ever heard good things about aquaclears. There is lots of room for filter media. You can choose what types you want to put into it. They are also quiet. I have an aquaclear on one tank. I am in the process of changing my other tank to have an aquaclear as well.

Aquaclear 20 would be great for a 10 gallon. Unfortunately, your parrots will need a bigger tank very soon. As adults, they will need a 4 foot tank (minimum 55 gallon in my opinion).

dont skimp on your filter. its the single most important piece of equiptment on your aquarium that you will buy. think about it. the filter is what alows your fish to live, survive and if adequate...thrive. the biggest mistake new aquariusts make is skimping on the filter. you cant overfilter your tank. the aquaclears are good but go with something that is 3-4X the recomended size for a 10 gallon tank. maybe an aquaclear 50 or even 70. i used to have all kinds of mysterious and lots of times not so mysterious fish deaths. after coming to realize what i was doing wrong..and upgrading my filters significantly...i have not had a fish illness or death since. the health of my tank has improved drastically.

ideally what you are looking for is a filter that pumps the most water (GPH, gallons per hour) through the filter that holds the largest volume of filter media. it doesn't matter if its a HOB (hang on back), sump, refugium, or canister. try to find one that will pump the most water through the largest amount of filter media.

I agree with ER9. Do a bit of shopping. However I use a stingray on my goldie tank and I am really impressed with it. it is silent, there are two media sponges which makes it easier to change them when they start to fall apart as you can just remove and replace one. There is also slots to add carbon cartridges in it.
