| Water Changes Hi guys,
I did a 50 % water change last night and got my nitrates down to about 10. My question is, how do you guys get the fresh water you add up to temperate before adding it to the tank? It took nearly 12 hours to get my water back up to temp and that is obviously not good enough when there are fish inside. |

| Good morning wooza. I pre-filter my water in another aquarium for my water changes, it's heated and treated ahead of time. Some just go by feel using a python water changer. I've also put water in gallon jugs, set them in a sink of hot water to raise the temps to match my tank temp. |

| Hmm,good advice. So do most of you guys run an empty tank constantly? Is this seperate to your quarantine tank, or do you use the QT to make water changes to your stocked tanks? Do visitors to your house look at you funny when they see a fully functioning fish tank without any fish in it? |

| I have a separate tank 29g just for clean fresh water. I don't think too many people do it this way. It's a little extra work but it works for me and gives me peace of mind knowing my water has been aged and pre=treated and almost an exact temperature match to my main tank. I also have a quarantine tank that I keep running and stocked.
People that aren't into the hobby may laugh at an empty tank but that's ok. I have fish and they don't lol |

| no, i use a python to fill my tanks up. when i said that i used a thermometer earlier, i meant i use it to set the temperature of the tap water. |

| No python, on thermometer. I am a bucket girl! If i syphon out 6 buckets, I add six buckets back. Fill the bucket (mix hot and cold, "feel" the temp), add the prime, put it back in the tank. It works for me |

I just get the temp to within a few degrees. if your using a python or similar i would make sure your water coming outta the tap is the right temp, then start filling. definatly not safe to shock your fishies with cold water tho!!! |
