Fishless Ammonia Cycle

I've got a question, how long should this actually be taking? I started my cycle 33 days ago and just got a reading of 1ppm of ammonia. Is this right? I had no idea it would take so long.

Hi Dawn.
In your aquarium info it says that in 5/21 your ammonia was 4ppm.....now it's 1ppm?
Any nitrite or nitrate reading?
That'll give us a better idea of what's going on.
There's no set time frame for a cycle to complete since there are so many variables.

What method are you using to cycle your tank? 33 days is a long time to be where you are in the cycle. (I'm assuming that that 1ppm is an increase and not a decrease)

EDIT...oops, I didn't read the aquarium info. It appears that your ammonia is on the way down. That would mean that you are on the right track. You should start seeing nitrites in the next week or so. It "normally" takes anywhere from 4 to 8 weeks to cycle.

I would say that you are still within normal time period for cycling ... it's hard to wait, I know the feeling, congrats on fishless cycling!

Do you have nitrite and/or nitrate readings yet? ... what is your pH?

So I came home on my lunch break to test for Nitrite and Nitrate...Nitrite = 5ppm and Nitrate = 20ppm. Guess I am doing well after all!
