Training To Eat Vegetables

Is there any way to train guppies to eat pea's and lettuce? I'm kind of new to the whole vegetable thing. Still old school with flakes and pellets

My fish never bothered with lettuce. My snail loves it though.
They love frozen peas....shelled, thawed and cut into bits the size of their eye.
If you want to get them to try a new food you can fast them for a day then try.

Hi: And welcome to FishLore-i think you just have to keep offering it to them and sooner or later they will eat their veggies or won't and if not you can purchase a veggies subsitute in the pet shop and some vitamins would also be nice welcome and good-luck with your fishies-bella

I just tried different things until I found veggies they liked. My fish like spinach, zuchinni and cucumber...they'll eat lettuce too... but to a lesser degree. I haven't tried peas yet... but I know that none of them went for the carrots.

My guppies nibble on lettuce but you have to break it up very small.

Maybe my guppies are weird, they LOVE mashed peas. I couldn't get mine to eat much cucumber or zucchini, though..

Mashed? I should try that,

How do you get them to eat cucumbers? Is cucumber good for Cories? Anything else for Cories?

when you mash them up...dont they just clutter your tank...whenever i tried that the peas just break down into particles when thrown inside the tank and really messes up the water...so i dont do that

Now that I think of it, I've never tried putting in whole peas! I just put a few frozen peas in a some water and microwave them until they're soft. I let them cool and take off the outer shell. I mash up the peas into paste and then i drop bits of it into the water. Some of it does break up into tiny pieces, but they quickly get eaten.

Heh, I don't know why they go nuts over peas.. I feed them peas maybe once a week, and I rotate among different types of flakes and frozen foods.

Do you really sit and cut them up, or do you mash them into proper size? I can just see someone teadiously cutting peas, lol!

I use a plastic spoon or a toothpick and put small amounts of peas in the water. My guppies will eat the peas as they sink. Even if they hit the gravel, guppies like to scavenge, so they eventually find and eat the leftover bits. My water quality doesn't seem to be affected, so I guess they must be doing a decent cleanup job!
