Black thready hairy growth in aquarium.

I have an 8 month old tank with some kind of infestation. I've got black to reddish hairy algae or something that took out my plants and is growing vigorously in several places in my aquarium. It seems to like high flow areas.
Any suggestions?

Butterfly I couldn't find anything that really looked like whatever I have. I hope the pics help! PS. My 30 gallon tank is down to a female yellow molly. 5 platy's, 2 angels, three green cory cats two of which are small, and my pleco. I can't remember who told me that plecos make a lot of poop but man they were right. I haven't fed him for months and he's always trailing a long string!

Okay I know it's summer and everyone is busy! Still yet I'm a little surprised by the lack of response. This forum was such a help when I was looking for ideas to find homes for my juvenile angels! Are the pictures not clear enough. I've got sharper ones but the site has a pretty strict limit on size!!
thanks again!

Good morning. By looking at the pictures it seems to be white hair algae and is common in new tanks. You can try to remove it but chances are it will return. However, it will eventually go away on it's own. Too, some types of fish will feed from it. It may not look too pretty at the moment but I don't think you have anything to worry about.

Thank you. It bothered me that it infested all of my floating plants and I was concerned that it would get out of hand. I'll wait a couple of months then go with some more live plants! Thanks again

I think you already have the idea...try to add live plants to your tank only after the algae starts to disappear or else it will cover your plant and they will start to die out
