Shipping Endlers

We'll be shipping 7 endlers from Louisiana to Georgia and were trying to find the best method of packaging the fish as we have never shipped before. Any suggestions would be appreciated. We have breather bags as well as poly bags to choose from.

I would go with the breather bags. Double bag them after making them fast for a couple days. Then put 1/4 water and rest air per bag. I would also try no more than 2 fish per bag. Use a package lined with styrofoam.

I have to respectfully disagree I don't believe your suppose to double bag breather bags as carbon Dioxide exits the bag and oxygen enters the bag. This is why their called breather bags. Kordon is the company that makes these bags and they advise you fill them all the way with water and not leave an air space because oxygen comes in through the bag. Here is a much better explnation of how to use these really neat bags
Under the title Kordon breather bags click the button for more information.

Yep your right conventional bags need to be doubled but breathers are really tough.

np your advice applied to conventional bags was good advice. I'm kind of leaning toward breathing bags as the new best way to ship.

Thanks everyone! We had heard so many different explanations about single and double bags...it gets confusing. Everyone seems to have their own opinion on the subject. I had read an article on breather bags a while back, but couldn't find it when I needed it. Thanks.

Check out a seller on Aquabid by the name of: lotsoffish (he ships a lot and is always willing to answer any questions) the order of Endlers I received from him were packed in plastic bags infused with co2, surrounded by news paper insulation (the kind you use to insulate your home) all packed in a styrofoam box, within a shipping box.
They all arrived alive, well and eating! Good luck and I hope this helped.

I believe that bag had been infused with oxygen (o2). co2 would have killed them in heavy concentrations
And yes Lotsoffish is awesome.

Sort of off topic - Bettas should never be bagged in the kordon breather bags, they need to get to oxygen (thats not in the water) as they are labarinth fish. But otherwise i agree with you, the breather bags are they way to go.

Good luck with shipping the endlers Autumn. Its scary the first time you ship but after that it gets easier.
