Acclimating new fish

How long can a fish survive in unfiltered water? See, I bought a new angel fish today but it turns out the LFS pH is dramatically lower than my tank. I opened the bag and left it float in the tank while occasionally adding a few drops of tank water to it. I don't have an extra tank or filter I did add a few drops of prime to take care of the amonia and stress. Thanks, Its already been 3hrs.

As long as you're removing some water as you're adding new, the fish should be okay.
Make sure to post pics when you're done acclimating him!!

OK Thanks and I will. Unfortunately I lost my favorite angel three weeks ago about one week before my tank was fully cycled and I suspect it may have been from a ph change. I did a 25% wc - about three gal. - with spring water instead of my tap water and the next day he passed. Don't like seeing that happen again!

The tank was uncycled? Angels are a delicate fish, they need a well established aquarium to survive.

Yeah, I didn't know better then but I almost made it through. The other angel went through the whole cycle like it was nothing.

They may not show signs of stress, but ultimately is does have an effect.

Although tap water contains many elements that are unsafe for our fish we do have products to counteract these elements. With any natural water source it would difficult to even guess what chemicals and/or elements it might contain.

I would have to suggest that you stick to tap water as it should be fairly consistent whereas naturally collected water could vary widely between collections.

Sorry about the loose of your angle.

Angel Fish,
Im sorry you and your fish are having a bad time.
I'm not sure the size of your tank is the best for an angel.

No, its not. I am looking for a larger tank - about a 46g bow or 50g. I was curious what freecycle was about that Amanda was referring to in another post. New tanks are Eexpeensive!
