Super Danio!!

Ok for back on the 17th I posted that i lost one of my Danios during a substrate change. Well....I found him! I took one of my plants out to clean the off it, and get this! He was actually underneath the substrate that was weighing the plant down and he was there for 3 weeks.

I noticed him swimming in the water bucket that I cleaned the plant in. First I thought I accidentally took a danio out and quickly did a count to determine who was missing. It was the 5th.

After 3 weeks of being crushed by substrate and not fed he is still swimming. I am blown away!

So now I hope I can nurse this little guy back to health. I am thinking it will be a bad move to just integrate him back in? He swims awkward, and he is definitely mal-nourished (feel bad for the little fella :-( )

wow that is simply amazing! i would suggest you put him in a quarantine tank and use stress coat +. he may never fully recover but make sure to feed him nutrient rich foods and a varied diet might also help. keep him in quarantine for about a month or until he is ready to face the others and compete for food. i would also suggest a 25% WC 2 times a week to keep away infections, and keep the temp steady because right now he is probably very sussecptible to desiese and needs the best water possible. and one more thing, give him lots of love and attention. good luck.

EDIT: seeing that you dont have a quarantine tank i would use a tank divider so he isnt picked on by the others.

Thanks much for the advice, and I totally agree it is quite amazing. I have been told that danio's are quite hardy, but wow this is extreme.

I actually just tested how the tank would react to him and the other danios aren't bugging him at all. He is also eating again (at first he was a little too shell shocked)

Definitely hope the little guy pulls through

You can also put him in a breeder box inside your tank, this will allow him to get used to your tank conditions and you can also monitor and feed him with more ease.

Honestly the little guy doesn't look like he will make it. I am literally floored that he survived this long. I am just going to let him swim out his days with his pals. Who knows he may make it after all (I hear that cheesy Never give up Never surrender music playing in the background somewhere) :-)
