2 new corys sitting on bottom of tank

so picked up two new corys last night and they were fine yesterday swimming around and now today they are both sitting on the bottom of the tank.

My 2 badis and other cory are doing just fine in the tank swimming all around. but the two new ones are not??

I could not find your "Aquarium Info" so any thing I say is a guess. I do not thing it is unusual for corys to sit on the bottom. That is kind of what they do.

Its in a 5 gallon tank, all levels are good, he/she has not moved for the past 12 hours.

3 cories, and 2 badis in a 5 gallon is a bit overstocked imo. You need a bigger tank.

cories sometimes do that...plus the fact that you just got them..they might just be getting used to their new environment

I've had 3 cories in my 36 gallon tank for almost a year now and all they do is hang out on the bottom...except at feeding time.

Normally I'd say that's just what cories do but in a 5 gallon tank I think you are right to worry that they're not ok. Do you have other tanks you could move the fish from the 5 gallon to. I don't think they will last long in there.

Update, They all seem to be moving around now, think he was just scared/getting used to the water.

And as fare as over stocked i dont think so. The badis grow a max of 1 inch and these cories grow a max of .75 inches, thats less then 5 inchs in a planted tank.

Correct me if im wrong in my thinking

your tank is so new, cories are probably not adjusting well to the parimeters..and I have a 4 inch cory right now so depending on what type you have (once again filling in your info helps members and taking the time to do so, will stop most of the questions when you have a problem) will depend on how big he will get.... .75 is not one ive heard of before and I think you are over stocked but its doable with extra tank maintenance

They are called pgymy corys, sorry thought all you could read my mind

Common Names: Pygmy Cory, Pygmy Catfish
Scientific Name: Corydoras Pygmaeus
Origin: Brazil, in the Rio Maderia and it's tributaries.
Maximum size: 1 inch
Care: Pretty hardy and undemanding, pH of 6.5-7.4 but closer to neutral. Tempature of 72-78. Prefers soft waters, and a shoal of at least 7 in my opinion. Be sure not to house with larger or more aggressive fish, and add some bog or driftwood into the tank. And will appreciate a fine gravel or sand subtrate.
Feeding: Usually not to picky about foods. brine shrimp, blood/tubifex worms, flakes, shrimp pellets, and catfish pellets or wafers.
Sexing and breeding: Females tend to be a tad wider. Breeding occurs in shoals, eggs are laid on plants .
Comments: Very peaceful (like all cory's). Will swim to low mid levels of the tank and very active. Wonderful community fish to have (in my opinion they're better and more fun to have than normal cory's). Some have a very low subdued metallic shine on their body while some have a very bright shine.

Little info,

they all have small bioloads, so keep an eye on them..i think its maxed out tho and the smaller tanks, even at stock level, are much more work to keep stable so IMO , I wouldnt add anything else

I'll admit I was picturing cories the size of mine. They're a year and a half old and pretty big. I guess your max size will still be under the 1 inch per gallon rule. Still seems like a lot to me though. Make sure you keep up with the water changes and I hope you don't decide to add your ram to that tank. I'm glad they are swimming around now and feeling better.

i dont think you're overstocked, but watch your levels regardless. do your normal water change, and take a reading immediately before your next planned water change and see how high your nitrAtes have gotten. if they're below 20 (preferably closer to 10) then you shouldn't have a problem. i think your cories were probably just acclimating to the tank, just give them a few days to get adjusted and see how they do

Just think how happy they would all be in a 10 or 20 gallon tank.
