Can tank glass get foggy/not as clean over time

Okay so i just got done setting up my 5 gallon corner eclipse tank. I got it used with gravel, plants, ect.

Today i went to walmart to get the rest of the stuff i need, air stones, heater, ect. So I have had the tank running for about 24-36 hours now.

The water readings are 0-.5 ammonia ,0 nit, and 5-10 nitrate. So my water readings are okay, I put an old filter media(also sent poo all over my tank, still cleaning that up) any way on to my questions.

So as fare as i know everthing is okay with the tank, Water, heat, filtration ect.

So know what i wanna ask, when i look into the tank it looks foggy/hazzy, But its not like its a water problem foggy or at least thats what it looks like, Kind of looks like the glass is dull or not as transparent.

Can this happen and what can i do to fix it(i tried just wipping it a little with a cloth, did not work)

you think its just my water playing tricks on me or the tank

Good morning. I would venture to guess that you are getting a bacterial bloom. Nothing to worry about. It will eventually go away on it's own. It may take some time and a few water changes once you're cycled. I am also assuming your aquarium is glass and not acrylic.

yeh, the bloom would be the first thing i would expect..... but acrylic can get a haze to it most definately if it wasnt cleaned properly before storing or selling it to you..... they do sell ALOT of cleaners and repair kits for acrylic..... only downside is that if it is the "glass it would be alot easier to clean it while empy, especially if its scratched or glazed..

hi, lousieg55. if it's glass try using nylon scrubbers by 3M. i use it in mine.

75 G community planted with live rock. Generic overhead filter (1,000 liters/ hr).
7 swordtails
10 German guppies
2 pearl mollies
2 dalmatian mollies
7 Glass fishes
1 Red Oranda (5 inch)

PS: Will post pics later on new set-up. Will soon add miniture "Bermuda grass" (for aquariums) in tank.

Can any one confirm it is plexi, not really glass, does not feel like glass to me feels like plastic.

Also do you use the Nylon Scrubbers while fish and stuff still in there.

well if its heavy as heck, and has butted corners with silicone up and down the edges its glass...
if its light and has slightly rounded\beveled edges on the corners its probly acrylic

Good morning. Be careful what you use to clean an acrylic tank. There are special algae scrubbers/pads just for acrylic. If you use one made for glass it may scratch your acrylic and make a big ole mess of things.

Yes acrylic tanks are "molded" i.e. they have no seams, whereas glass tanks have 5 sheets (front, back, two sides, bottom) siliconed together.

kk yea i think its acrylic, what do you suggest to clean it.

Go LFS see what they have, or that nylon pad work(never seen one though)

thanks for all the help,

I would go to the lfs and get a cleaner made for acrylic tanks. (That's what I did, so I do follow my own advice. )
