Stocking My Tank

Hi everyone. I just set up a 33 gallon tank about a month ago. I waited until it was cycled and then added 4 male guppys and 3 iridescent sharks and a sucker fish. I then bought 3 plants to help lower nitrites. I know realize that the sharks are going to get way too big for my tank and I think my tank is overstocked because others have told me so. I don't know what to do. Help please!!!!!!

Is there a LFS that you can take the sharks & pleco to?

iri sharks will get too big, like you said, as will your pleco.

I've never seen them available, but there is another catfish that looks kinda like an iri shark. It's called a debauwi catfish. They like to school, though, so I don't know if you would want to take up that much room with them. They are apparently very active and amusing.

once the iri shark and pleco situation are taken care of, what kind of fish are you interested in?

Hi Lizaxx! welcome to fishlore!!

id see if your LFS will return them and take them for free or credit...you are doing the right thing by them...as far as plants for the "nitrites" do you mean nitrates? because if you have nitrites, you are not cycled I hope things work out well for you!!

I don't know if my LFS will take the sharks back...I wonder why they would sell them to me in the first place!!!! I have no idea what kind of fish I want to get. I like loaches but I have no idea what else I should put with them. How many fish can a 33 gallon hold including the 3 plants I already have?

First thing to do is see if your LFS will take them back from you.

And Welcome to Fishlore

your LFS sells them because people buy them. That's all.

if you want loaches, kuhli loaches or dwarf chain loaches would be great for a 33 gallon tank do you have the dimensions? the loaches would prefer a longer tank as opposed to a taller one but a 33 gallon should be fine for six of one or the other

A general rule of thumb is one inch of adult size fish per gallon of water. So in a 33 gallon tank, you could have 33" of fish. Of course some common sense is in order with that rule. For example you wouldn't want to put a 10" long fish in a 10 gallon tank.
