how do i know if i have a pair, i have 1 jewel cichlid and i went to petsmart yesterday and got two other ones and i put them in the tank and the other jewel doesnt attack eithr of them and lets them hang around him i dont know how to tell when they ahve paired up

The only way I know of to sex them is by the tail. Females have a kind of red edge around the top of the tail which fades out halfway down, males don't have this, but they have a lot more blue specks in the tail. Could you post some pics? I might be able to identify them for you. It'll take a while for them to pair up even if you do have a male and female though.

Hi, i will be taking pictures, they are shy fish and im trying to get ones of the tails , i think they are a pair because they swim together and the other one lets him sit in her hiding spot and not get attacked and there is no agression between them at all
