wanting info on some fish

I mentioned going to a tropical fish store in my last post but forgot to ask some questions in that post so here I am again starting a new thread.

At the fish store I found tattooed tetras, I had read about fish that were tattooed but didn't think I would ever see any in person around this area.
Why would you want a tattooed fish? What are the risks to the fish? I just think it's cruel to do that to them. One fish had a tattoo of a heart, another fish had a tattoo of the american flag, another one was tattooed with poke a dots all over it's body. I felt sorry for them.

What exactly are mixed fruit tetras? Walmart has them, and I was just wondering if they were tattooed or injection with dye to make them look the way they do. Another pretty fish I found was a glofish/sunburst or some thing like that and what I understand is that they had been injected with dye from jellyfish or some thing like that. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

I also seen micky mouse platy fish, have they been tattooed to have the micky mouse look near the tail or are they actually born that way?

Thank you for taking the time to read my posts and for answering my questions.

People buy tatooed fish because they like the way they look. I personally think it is cruel and would never buy them.

Mixed fruit tetras are injected with a dye. Once again I would never buy them due to cruelty issues.

Glofish are Danio's that have been genetically altered with Jellyfish DNA (The DNA is injected into the eggs I believe). I don't believe any fish are harmed or experiance pain in the process. Also, I think the ones available are the spawn of the genetically altered origionals.

Glofish are born that way, the originals were genetically altered.
Mickey mouse platies are all natural.

jdhef, thank you for answering my questions. I too think it's cruel to tattoo a fish, fish are beautiful without having to be tattooed or altered.

Thanks again.
