Serpae Tetra has pop-eye

I discoverd last night that one of his eyes was bulging out. This morning when I got home from work, the first thing I did when I walked in the door was to feed them and check on the Tetra.

I went to the "Fish Desease" section of this forum and have come to the conclusion that it is, in fact, "Pop-Eye"

I don't have a Q-tank ( i know, shame on me) Is there a way to treat this without the means of a Q-Tank?

All the water parameters are great and I do weekly water changes every Sunday. Tank is crystal clear and this is the first issue I have had since adding the little guys.

TANKS!

Is there any way that you can set up a rubbermaid container with a filter? That works as a quick QT. After that I'd medicate for pop-eye.

No not really. Could this infect the rest of the tank?

You can try and find a clean container to float in the main tank.
Something like small q set up might help since you're in a pinch.
Quick & cheap isolation tank
For med doses in small q tanks this might be helpful

The 2.5 gallon Sterilite containers makes a great QT and only cost about $3 at Walmart. It's easy to manage daily water changes for 24hr re-medication of the water and is easy to aerate with a tiny pump and small heater which are the two most essential appliances you'll need. For my sick fish using just a 1 gallon pitcher I could do 50% water changes in the QT in one shot, using medicated and conditioned (StressCoat) RO water.

Sorry, really missed this orignal question.
It would be best to isolate him to treat him, it's best not to medicate healthy fish.

I called the LFS where I bought him and they told me to bring him in. They took him and gave me 1 in return. They have a bunch of tanks that they use to treat "sick" fish. At ;east thats what they told me and from what I saw I really want to believe them. They had a few patients in their care already. They have a bunch of corp. accounts where they maintain tanks for offices and such so...........Im going back there tomorrow to see if they still have him. Ill post an update.

I don't really have the means to set up a q-tank right now. (cycled tank, filter, heater) But after this episode its on the top of my priority list.

Glad you're LFS treats them. Mine throw them out. Or use them as feeders.

Yeah its a great store. They have this one fish in there thats the store pet. Its about the size of a frisbee and about 2" wide. Just huge. They keep in 200g acrylic corner tank. You stick you hand in there and he rubs up against you. he like to be petted.

They are very passionate about fish. One guy was hanging around in there so much that they gave him a job. A lot of times when I go in there he is woking with customers and he isn't even on the clock. he loves it THAT much.

p.s. sorry if it seemed I "snapped" at you in an earlier post. I was kind of stressed. The fish thing today made a bad week worse. I won't even tell you what on of my cats did yesterday...Grrrrrrrrrrr

Have a great day!

Like I said I dont have a camera phone and I felt weird bringing my digital in with me but when I was in there again today, I asked them again ( I always forget lol) what type of fish it was. Its a Bat Fish. They reminded me he wasn't for sale because he is the stores "pet"
http://www.barrierreefaustralia.com/...r-bat-fish.htm

The one in the store has darker fins than the one in the pic.

I also checked on my Serpae that I brought in and they are treating him and said he'll be fine. Soon to join his brothers and sisters in their common tank.
so thats cool. Im glad.
