his tank may have cycled and deffinately after 2 years I would hope so, but with 100 fish even if fry, in a 10 gal tank, im sure he could hit mini cycles all the time unless he is doing every day water changes ....its the mini cycle that will not do a thing for your tank....
im not criticizing you but deffinately offering another suggestion ... after all the time and money you have put into this tank, you really need a better
test kit (as im sure you know this) because false readings can lead to disaster as much as the beginning of this thread and you could land back to square one

take some kind of container with you and fill it with water from his tank so you can put the filter media in it so the bacteria won't die on the way home.
