Yellow & Black Back Chichlid

Hi,

I have just set up a new tank which has been up and running around a week and a bit. It is a 40 gallon (ish) tank and I have so far put on 12x neon tetras, 3x dalmation molly's and 3x platys. Thinking of getting a couple of the yellow and black back cichlids as they look really colourful but can anyone advise if this is likely to result in my neons being munched on?

Also my new play fish seem to hide behind the plants at the back of my aquarium - is this normal or are they adjusting to their new surroundings? I only introduced these yesterday?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

If you are looking at african cichlids (which it soulds like mel auarartus that you are looking at) they are not compatable with anything but other malawi cichilds. This species is the most aggressive out of them all, and they will eat the other fish in the tank, and or mal them to death.

I would look at more peaceful fish for th e tank.
