Algae eater got stuck in a plant

I found my Chinese Algae Eater stuck in a plant this morning. It's not the first time a fish got stuck in there, so I am getting rid of the plant altogether (it's a fake plant). I got him out of there but he is unable to swim or turn himself. I set him upright on the tank bottom and he is breathing, but I his gills look a little bloody.

I wonder if I should euthanize him or let him be to see how he does.

He might recover if you give him a bit of time.

I think I had an oto get stuck in something once and shred up his fins, but he recovered ok. I would give it a few days and see if your CAE recovers. An extra water change wouldn't hurt.

Give him some time. Never be in a rush to euthanize.

Fish can be pretty tough little critters. Give him some time to see how he does. On another note, if he is in the 10 gallon, you may want to start saving up for a larger tank.
Cae's need a lot of room. 55 gallon tank minimum. If they do not have sufficient space and food, they can become aggressive towards their tankmates. As long as they have enough room to swim around, enough hiding places (2-3 caves each), and sufficient food (they like meatier foods as they get older - try sinking scavenger tablets) then they will leave the other fish alone.

make sure that your water is super clean, add a little stress coat, and give him time to recover, if you have a quarantine tank that you can put him into that would help him heal and you can keep a close eye on him
