| Food choices I would like to know what kind of food is the best and why. Every fish is suppose to get a varied diet, and i do my best to give them this. However, i wouuld really really like to know about blood worms VS. brineshrimp. For example, which has more nutritional value, which brings out more colors, which one is more cost effective, you know. The benefits and pitfalls of each.
This is mainly an opinion based thing, so don't hesitate to throw your two bits in!!! |

| The problem with your question is that different fish need different food.
A cichlid needs more fibre in its diet than a catfish for example |

| Best foods Ok to simplify it, IMO: 1.) Live or Fresh Foods 2.) Frozen 3.) Flakes and Pellets. 4.) Freeze Dried 5.) Occasional Cheerios lightly sweetened multi-grain or Honey Combs...Koi treats lol, not for tropicals.
But of course these need to be alternated and fit for your fish types...the key is a well balanced diet. Food with minimum fillers and unspeakable additives, except the Koi treats...it's like having 2 double cheese on the dollar menu. Last edited by TedsTank; March 22nd, 2009 at 05:11 PM.

| to give you an idea, for my bettas i feed either 4 hikari pellets or 6 atisons pellets for the adults twice a day (the atisons are much smaller than the hikari), or 4 atisons for my babies. once a week they get one or two meals of frozen bloodworms, and once every two-three weeks they get one meal of frozen brine shrimp. my corycats get sinking wafers and fresh veggies when i have them, and my guppies get tropical flakes, bloodworms, and brine shrimp |

| I occasionally give my fish a cookie. Its high in calories and calcium. But I wouldn't do it too often. |

| I knew all that. If you refer to my first question, which has more nutritional value, which brings out more colors, which one is more cost effective, you know. The benefits and pitfalls of each.
I should have put what is best for cichlids as the title |

| everything I listed is best...mixing it up all the time is the most nutritional...add in some hikari cichlid pellets and that would be all they need for a well balanced diet |
