Net the betta or put in his dirty water?

betta is floating in his foul water, acclimating to the warm temps and pH. Should I use the net to get him out or just dump in his nasty water?

Where's the filter? Is it working?

Just give a partial water change... a large one at that

never put, any water nasty or not, from another source into your tank....use a net to put him into half of his water and have of your water into a container...then slowly add more of your water within 15 min intervals

I usually don't use nets on my betta but in this case, you don't want any of his nasty water in your tank.
Net him gently.

I think the OP is saying they just purchased a cup baby from the LFS. Do you have a cycled tank ready for it? I would be very careful netting a betta as they can get caught in the net.

Filter is working, water waiting for him is clean. I just always think the nets seems brutal (and mine is probably too small) . . . but I don't want his icky water. I'm adding bit of my water into his floating bag. I'll net him out when it's time. Thanks!

I wouldn't put in the nasty water. They might carry parasites.

Ahh , misunderstood it. No, net him, never mix dirty water with your clean one.

He's in! He has a very fashionable little tank. Thanks for all the advice over the last couple days, everyone. I couldn't get the pleco out, so he's still in there. Picture to come soon!

I know I'm just a newbie, but am I the only one worried about the idea of a 'fashionable little tank'? They can be very little and fashionable...

Nope, there's pretty much universal despise in these forums for 'little tanks' for bettas.

Finneus is in a 2.5 mini bow. Sharkitty meant fashionably designed.
Here's a pic of Finneus's Tank

Thanks, Lucy!! 2.5 gallon with heater, fancy filter (that did not come with it), and almost perfect water. He's a happy critter.

That does sound good - sorry for doubting, but there are still some idiots around these days
