Play Sand - Is it ok?

So Multiple tank syndrome has kicked in and I bought another tank last night. Its going to be a lovely new fully planted mansion for one lucky betta.

I was wanting to use sand in this tank as I prefer the look and I have heard its easier to grow plants in sand.

Do you think this will be ok?

Thanks

Chris

I read in one of the Beta care articles on this site, that you shouldn't put sand in a Beta tank. Apparently, they eat the sand while looking for food and it can kill them.

the play sand is actually harder to grow plants in because it gets compacted really easy and can crush the roots, but pool filter sand works very well.

there have been lots of discussions about bettas with sand, i do keep...9 of my 11 with sand and haven't had any problems, but i have to keep a close eye on them to see if anyone ever tries to eat any. so far no one has, and the ones that have just spit it out. but if anyone tried to i'd have to switch them to gravel.

Thanks for your replies but i think im gunna go with something like eco complete for my planting. Will be better for the plants and the fish.
