cory catfish question

Hi guys! I was wondering if albino cory catfish need to get to the surface for air? I noticed they went up every now and then in my ten gallon tank. I just put them in a 48 gallon tall tank...31 inches high. I don't think they can make it to the top. I have an air stone in there. Will they be alright?

Corrys do need to 'breathe' air, not in the same way as Bettas or gouramis but they take air into their guts as a 'swim bladder' every now and then they will expell the air and then go to the top of the tank for fresh.

thats why you sometimes see little air bubbles blow out the back of your corrys

I am sorry I really don't know, I would imagine in the wild they would have far bigger depths to cope with bearing in mind the rivers they come from.

I dont have a tall tank, but I would think if you could provide them with some tall plants to help them they would appreciate it.

I know that far from staying on the bottom of my corys do swim up and through the plants. I have even seen them sleeping in the plants.

Ok...thanks. I have some taller plants but they seem a little flimsy. Maybe I'll go get some new ones. Thanks again.
