Is this a good deal?

Hey guys and gals. I'm new here but have been lurking for a little while. From the looks of things, this seems like a good deal but just wanted to run it by you guys first.

I have a 20 gallon that has been sitting empty since I was a kid. But I kinda wanted something bigger. I've learned quite a lot from fishlore.com! Especially about the nitrogen cycle. I'm thinking about a community freshwater tank, and using the 20g as a quarantine tank. Or something to that effect. I have a bare wall in my house and that 55g tank would fit perfectly!

i hope you get it!!!

when you do though, i'd fill up the tank outside first VERY slowly to double check for leaks. unless it's filled up when you get there then you don't have any guarantee that it wont leak and believe me you don't want to have 55 gallons of water on your floor!

also, i'd bleach the whole tank (1 part bleach 19 parts water) while you're filling it up outside to check for leaks to kill anything that may be in there (diseases, dirt, bacteria, etc). make sure you rinse the whole tank very well after you bleach it.

when you bring it inside to put it on the stand, fill it very slowly again so that the floor has time to settle. and add LOTS of water conditioner to kill whatever bleach was leftover.

Hi, I'm new too. Like you I have been kicking around for awhile the idea of an aquarium. I had one years ago. That is a good deal. I have been watching several sites for a good used aquarium. Most were running from $300 ton $400 used with stand. Last week I found one the same size at a garage sale near my house. I paid $125 for it. It had everyhing it needed but a heater, even rocks and decor. I even got the old filter from it since they had just drained it the night before. I used it for some good bacteria. Of course I have spent another $80 for supplies and a few fish and a plant. Just clean it good before setting up and check for leaks. Great buy if it works well. Mine did and I LOVE it.
