1 Molly ok

I just started up my 12 gallon tank. I have 4 different color Platy's. My question is can you have just one male Molly (I think the black are cool)? Or do they need to be in pairs or schools?

they can usually be left to themselves without any problems. Its always better to have a school but most mollys will be fine on their own. I personally like mollys and would recommend as many as you can support in a tank, but thats just my opinion! If you have a male it would be best to probably keep it alone though, as if you get a female they will breed and another male they may compete for dominance.

To add I have 4 male platy's, they seem to get along. Don't want any fry. So not sure if male Molly is to much testorene. If one molly works, I may go for one more.

i have one balloon mollie in my 10 gallon with three guppies and three corycats and he does just fine

mollies and platies cant interbreed so you don't need to worry about fry, only guppies and mollies can interbred and platies and swordtails can interbreed but no other combos.

Thanks. Will it be ok, to add two male molly's to my group of 4 male platy's? The black and dalmation molly look pretty cool.

i dont think you'd have any problems, you could see a bit of aggression between them but my male molly left my three male guppies alone

Do you have to add a table spoon of salt? Does this affect the other fish?

Some salt may help breeding if i remember correctly, but you shouldn't be playing around with that in a freshwater tank, can lead to bad accidents.

It says that your tank is 2 weeks old. This means it is not cycled yet. Of course that is if your info is not outdated. I would not add anymore fish in there untill you complete your nitrogen cycle.
